About
Born in 1961 on April 11 in Yerevan. The ancestors are descended from the Mamikonian ministerial lineage, one of whose branches came from the village of Khozli in the Khnus region of Western Armenia in 1830. resettled in the current city of Maralik, participating in the foundation of the settlement. His maternal grandfather is Derenik Demirchyan's brother Gevorg Demirchyan, born in 1921. one of the victims of Yerevan prison in January. 1978 V. Melikyan graduated from Yerevan School No. 21 named after Al. Shirvanzadeh and entered the Faculty of History and Geography of the Academy of Sciences named after Kh. Abovyan, majoring in "History and Soviet Law". 1980 transferred to the Faculty of History of YSU and graduated with honors in 1984. He was appointed as a teacher of history and social studies in the village of Alagyaz. 1987 He completed his post-graduate studies with the specialty "History of Armenians" and in 1989 to defend the candidate's thesis: "1917 February Revolution and Armenia" (PhD: 1990, Associate Professor: 2002). 1988 until today, V. Melikyan works at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia as a leading researcher. 1994-1996. held the position of scientific secretary of the RA NAS Humanities Department.
2002 he founded and until 2013 headed the Chair of World Politics and International Relations of the Armenian-Russian (Slavic) University, 2010-2012. held the position of the dean of the Faculty of Political Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
2013 until today, he heads the Chair of Social Sciences of YSUU named after M. Heratsi.
V. Melikyan is a doctor of history (2012), professor (2018). Author of 9 monographs, collective monograph (Armenian History, History Institute of NAS of RA), more than 90 scientific articles, collections of documents, maps, etc. He represents the direction of political Armenian studies, the range of scientific interests includes the period of Armenian history 1914-1921. the period, especially 1917 the period of two Russian coups, Political and civil history of Transcaucasus and Armenia, parties, 1918. The issues of the history of the May Heroic Wars, the emergence of RA, the problems of Western Armenians and the Armenian question, regional inter-ethnic and international relations. V. Melikyan is a founding member of the "National Congress of Western Armenians" international organization (Paris) and the National Council of Western Armenians. He made scientific and public speeches in Sofia (Bulgaria), Tehran (Iran), Paris (France), Montreux, Geneva (Switzerland), Nicosia (Cyprus), Los Angeles (USA), Beirut (Lebanon), Moscow, St. - in Petersburg, Pyatigorsk (RF), Istanbul (Turkey) and elsewhere. Since 1990, he taught at M. Heratsi State University and other universities of the capital.
By the decree of the President of the Republic of Artsakh in 2018, for his significant contribution to the military-patriotic upbringing of the servicemen of the Republic of Armenia, with the medal "Vachagan Barepasht". V. Melikyan was also awarded with many honors.
V. Melikyan is a senior lieutenant of the reserve army. He is the author of two collections of poems: "Love and khachkarer" (1999), "Anin sails in our stone sea" (2012).
He is married, has two sons.
