The International Armenian Studies Conference "Mirumyan Readings", dedicated to the memory of the renowned Armenian scientist, professor of the Department of Political Science of the RAU Karlen Mirumyan, was held at RAU House of Culture on October 10.
"I believe that this conference is important not only from the point of view of preserving the memory of our professor, who was both a scientist and a true thinker, but also due to the relevance of the topics being discussed. The speakers have prepared a series of reports on the significance of Armenian studies in a broad context," assured Head of the Department of Political Science at RAU, Hovhannes Sarkisyan.
In his turn, the Vice-Rector for Science, Professor Pargev Avetisyan has noted that it will take a lot of time to rethink the entire scientific, spiritual, and creative legacy that Karlen Mirumyan left behind.
"We acutely feel the lack of communication with this unique person, who possessed outstanding systemic thinking. I have always believed that Professor Mirumyan was a conceptualist in science and, for him, the scientific word had a special meaning."
He also emphasized that Karlen Mirumyan stood at the origins of the Russian-Armenian University. Professor Mirumyan was the founder of the Department of Political Science, which now bears his name, and made a significant contribution to the development of social and political sciences.
Director of the Institute of International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences at RAU, Yervand Margaryan, shared his memories of the scientist with the guests and participants of the event.
"Mirumyan was a man of principle with firm views and convictions. No circumstance could shake his position, which was evident both in his daily life and in his teaching activities. In the scientific domain, he also adhered to high academic standards."
During the event, Head of the Department of Political Science, Hovhannes Sarkisyan, presented a collection of articles "Mirumyan Readings. The Scientific Conference Dedicated to the Memory of K. Mirumyan." The book includes materials from the scientific conference in memory of Mirumyan, organized and held at RAU on December 13, 2022.
Professor of the Department of Political Science at RAU Rimma Mirumyan, in her capacity as the editor of K. Mirumyan’s book "The Paulician Movement in the Context of National History. Critical Essay," noted that in this study the Paulician movement and its ideology are examined in the context of national history.
The scientific conference continued within the framework of a separate section, where scholars assessed the role and legacy of Karlen Mirumyan in their reports.
