Department of Philosophy

About department

The Department of Philosophy was established as a separate educational and research unit in 2006 as a university-wide department.
In 2009, the department introduced the "Philosophy" program (030100.62).
In 2012, while remaining a university-wide department, it became part of the Institute of Humanities.
From 2024, the department has been incorporated into the Institute of International Relations and Public Policy Sciences.

Research Activities:
The conceptual foundation of the department’s work is based on the philosophy as a universal mediator for creating interdisciplinary connections.

Examines the philosophical bases of different educational models:
Education as a Subject of Philosophical Inquiry:
Considers education from the perspective of social philosophy, cultural studies, anthropology, etc.

Philosophy of Consciousness:
 Consciousness is currently considered as a "first philosophy." The research focuses on questions such as: Is consciousness physical? Is consciousness generated by the brain? Why do physical processes and events accompany conscious states rather than occur "in the dark"? Can consciousness be realized in other material systems? Is consciousness limited to humans?


Concept of Ethics and Its Role in the Modern World:
  Ethics in Contemporary and Philosophical Contexts: Explores globalization, technological advancements, and moral issues in the modern world.
  Professional Ethics: Investigates principles of professional ethics in the context of scientific discoveries, biotechnological advancements, and corporate ethics.

 Sociology:
Problems of Social Adaptation for Youth in Post-War Societies: Studies the social and psychological consequences of military conflicts, especially for young people, and aims to develop effective rehabilitation and integration programs to restore social stability and harmony in post-conflict regions.

The department collaborates with higher education institutions in Armenia and Russia, as well as several universities in the EU and the USA.
