Department of Political Science Named After K.A. Mirumyan

About chair

The Department of Political Science named after K.A. Mirumyan was established in 2013 through the merger of two departments: the "Department of Political Theory" and the "Department of Political Processes and Technologies." The department operates within the Institute of International Relations and Public-Political Sciences at the Russian-Armenian University and serves the political science specialization.
The aim of the Department of Political Science named after K.A. Mirumyan is to prepare undergraduate and graduate students in political science who possess a broad worldview, fundamental theoretical knowledge of political reality, creative thinking, analytical skills, practical experience, and are competitive in the modern job market.
Educational Practices:

A significant emphasis is placed on practical training. In their senior years, undergraduate students complete internships in various institutions, including the Prime Minister's  Office of the Republic of Armenia, the National Assembly, local government bodies, political party offices, public organizations, information and analytical PR departments of     leading companies, political and consulting agencies, media outlets, and international organizations.

Since 2023, the department has been named after Doctor of Philosophy, Professor K.A. Mirumyan.

Mission of the Department:
The mission of the department is to impart fundamental theoretical knowledge, which serves not as an end in itself but as a means of understanding and positively transforming the surrounding reality. In modern science, one of the main criteria for theoretical knowledge is its applicability in practice. Social and humanitarian sciences not only reflect social reality in an abstract form, revealing its general patterns, but also possess a significant potential for changing this reality compared to natural sciences. Therefore, contemporary political science education should follow this schema: political theory (theoretical models) → political technologies → practical changes in political reality.
