Department of World History and Foreign Regional Studies

About department

Department of World History and Foreign Regional Studies
The Department of World History and Foreign Regional Studies was established as a separate academic and research unit in 2006 as a university-wide department.
Until 2011, the department primarily focused on historical disciplines.

Starting in 2011, the department introduced specializations in "Sinology" and "Japan Studies," which allowed it to serve as both a university-wide and a graduating department.
In 2012, the department became part of the Institute of Humanities.
Since 2024, it has been integrated into the Institute of International Relations and Sociopolitical Sciences.

The primary research directions of the department are determined by its multidisciplinary focus, as reflected in its name. Despite having a relatively small staff, the Department of World History and Foreign Regional Studies conducts scientific research and explores a broad range of relevant issues, including world history, Russian studies, Armenian studies, Caucasian studies, Western studies, civilization theory and history, Sinology, Japan studies, and more.
The department regularly organizes international conferences, symposia, and seminars on current topics in historiography, ancient studies, medieval studies, Russian studies, China studies, Japan studies, religious studies, cultural studies, and others. It publishes collections of articles and collective monographs, methodological manuals, and more.
Several university and international research groups operate within the department.
Leading foreign and domestic experts are invited to conduct masterclasses. Graduates of the department are in demand both in Armenia and abroad.

The department is developing dynamically and purposefully.
